A simple ratchet like this is a straightforward way to tension strings, such as those in an elevator mechanism, or prevent backdrive of a mechanism that always needs to spin in the same direction. This Ratchet Plate is easy to attach on either a 2 in. or a 1.5 in. bolt circle.

Easiest way to tension elevator rope
We went through three different methods to tension our cascade elevator rope this year (clamping bolts, turnbuckles, and this). By far using this ratchet to tension the rope (described here: https://docs.wcproducts.com/greyt-elevator-cascade/assembly-instructions/multi-stage/string-and-chain#step-7b) was the easiest method maintain tension.
