Product Overview

AndyMark strives to be a one-stop-shop for competition robots. We took a long look at the flat gussets commonly used in competition robotics, noted the most useful ones, and set out to provide high quality, affordable and robust gussets that all teams can use.

We are pleased to offer these new gussets that are suitable for 1/2 in. based building systems. These thoughtfully designed gussets are made from 1/8 in. thick 6061-T6 aluminum, which is a much stronger material than other 0.09 in. 5052 aluminium gussets. All of these framing gussets feature a 1/2 in. linear hole pattern, with holes suitable for either #10 screws or 3/16" rivets.

Types of Gussets:

Right Angle and Joiner Gussets, such as the 90 degree corner, the Tee and the joiners, are great for joining sections of plain or pre-drilled box tube together to form right angles. They are either 1 or 2 inches wide so it's is easy to align the edges of the gusset with the edge of the tube if you are match drilling in plain box tube. The holes are only 1/4 in. from the "ends" so that a pair of gussets can be butted up end to end in a more compact space without any unused holes on 1/2 in. pitch tubing.

Standard Angle Gussets, such as 45 or 120 degrees, are best used with plain box tube. They are 1 inch wide so it is easy to align the edges of the gusset with the edge of the tube to perform match drilling. The grid pattern found on pre-drilled box tube is compatible at one end, but you will end up "off grid" at the other end and need a custom gusset, or need to match drill anyway, so plain tube is recommended.

3-4-5 Gussets are unique gussets that can be used in conjunction with a 90 degree gusset to form certain right triangles. The length of the sides of these triangles needs to be a multiple of 3 and 4 for the legs that make up the right angle, and the hypotenuse needs to be the same multiple of 5. These gussets work best with pre-drilled tubing as you can easily count the space between holes instead of measuring. For example, the triangle featured at the end of our promo video, measured via counting the space between holes, is 12-16-20 which is 3-4-5 scaled up by 4x. Also shown on our example triangle is that each corner has two different options of gussets available. The 90 degree corner has the option of using the regular 90 degree gusset or the 90 degree plate for extra strength and more mounting options. The corner between the "3" leg and the "5" leg is called the "Steep" corner, and the corner between the "4" leg and the "5" leg is called the "Shallow" corner. Each one of these gussets can have its internal corner pointed towards the center of the triangle, (called an Internal Gusset) or have its internal corner pointed away from the center of the triangle (called an External Gusset). For every complete 3-4-5 triangle you need a 90 degree gusset, a steep gusset and a shallow gusset. You can mix and match if they are external or internal as needed to accommodate other structure.
