Product Overview

The NeveRest Hex gearmotor is our newest planetary gearmotor designed for FTC. The NeveRest Hex line of gearmotors continues to offer a wide range of ratios making it easy to select the right one for the right application. The NeveRest Hex is backwards compatible and can be installed everywhere the previous NeveRest Orbital could be mounted. They have a pre-installed encoder and an output shaft directly in the center of the output face. The shaft is a 3/8 inch hex and is available in three different lengths based on application.

New to our NeveRest Hex line of motors is a detachable power cable. All Hex gearmotors will come with a twelve inch power cable that can be removed and replaced as required. This allows users to select an appropriate length of cable as well as allows the motor to be adaptable to other control systems.

JST-VH-2 connectors: this option comes standard and plugs directly into the FIRST Tech Challenge REV Controller

Shafts: 3/8 inch hex with a 10-32 tapped end in 1, 2, and 3 inch options

Part Number: this gearmotor assembly uses the following part numbering scheme

am-5550_xxxx_yyy

am-5550 (base number for NeveRest Hex Gearmotors)

xxxx denotes the shaft length (example 0100 is 1 inch)

yyy denotes the gearbox ratio (example 019 is 19.2:1)

FIRST Legality:

  • According to the FIRST Tech Challenge Competition Manual, all versions of the NeveRest motor are legal in FTC.
  • According to the FIRST Robotics Competition Game Manual, all versions of the NeveRest motor are legal in FRC as it uses the NeveRest am-3104 motor.

Encoder:

There is an encoder mounted to the backside of this motor. It is a 7 pulse per revolution (PPR), hall effect encoder. Multiply the ratio by 7 to get the PPR of the output shaft. For example the NeverRest Hex 3.7 output shaft provides 25.9 PPR.

Encoder Cable Options:
NeveRest motors do not come with an encoder cable as we offer multiple cable options:

am-3926a allows you to connect the encoder directly to the FIRST Tech Challenge REV Controller.
am-2992 has the 4 encoder pins joined in one housing using standard 0.1" spacing.
am-2993 allows you to break out the 4 pins separately if you need them in a different order.

Working with the Encoders:
